LIANG EAST & WEST EXPEDITION

Assalamualaikum wbt.

To mark the end of 2010, the Underestimate went for its last activity for 2010 by conquering Mount Liang East & West on 24th -26th December 2010. Liang East & West is located at Tanjung Malim, Perak and it is a twin-peaked mountain. Liang East is 6343feet and Liang West is 6342 feet from the sea level. One thing so special about this trip is, this is the first non-daypack activityorganized by Underestimate. We can't really expect what's gonna happen. I personally don't like spending the night at a place where i don't feel so comfortable.

10 of us joined this expedition i.e. Azmir. Bob, Dilla, Mayo, Cha, Tuty, Ermy, Fahmi, Kay and myself. We departed from Melaka at around 10 pm on 24th Dec. Fetch Ermiy at Cyberjaya and Tuty at Ampang, then proceed straight to Kg. Sg Dara. Stay overnight at the surau there.

Basically the whole trip could be described by the following diagram.

This diagram is very true in term of time taken and its level of difficulty

Together with us in this expedition are S.O.S (Silver Outdoor Sports) team and Relax team. Altogether around 20+. We started trekking at around 8am. The first stage before reaching Lubuk Hantu (first checkpoint) was a bit easy and leisure. All of us can still smiling...hehe

Smiling faces...still fresh

Taking rest along the way

After 2 hours of leisure trekking...we reached at the first checkpoint i.e. Lubuk Hantu. We took a rest, cook and eat here.

We continued our trekking from Lubuk Hantu to 2nd check point i.e. 7Eleven. From what we heard or read from the blog, this was the toughest stage. During the earlier stage it was quite easy but it became tougher and tougher until we reached 7Eleven. Apart from it's steepness, we were really tortured by its slippery surfaced due to wet weather lately.

The last group reached 7Eleven at about 4pm after an extreme torture of mental and physical. There is a waterpoint here to refill your water stock and to take bath...but it's cold bro...berdaghah..We spent the night here.

At 7Eleven...the temp starts going down very rapidly

As for me, the trekking or whatsoever did not really tests me. I was really tortured during the time spent at 7Eleven. One thing is because I was not comfortable with the muddy ground at 7Eleven....so irritating. Moreover, it was damn cold at night here at 7Eleven....i guess around 15 degree Celcius....maybe lower. Three of us sleep inside the 3-tier cramped hammock covered with a fly sheet and I was at the bottom. From the bottom, I can feel the chilly wind entering our fly cover which made me insomnia...hehe

Food prepared by our chef at 7Eleven...super duper yummy...hehe

After a long mentally tortured night, we finally resumed our trekking to the peak. It took about 2 hours to reach the peak and it was not easy my friend...believe me. Never underestimate this mountain.

Muka puas hati...tp sebenarnya berdaghah...haha

From Liang East peak to West peak, it took only 3-5 minutes. But the view from these two peaks is totally different. Liang East peak is quite open, dry and exposed to the sunlight but Liang West peak is a bit unexposed and mossy.

On the whole, this trip was very tough for the Underestimate. However, we had broke our tradition by staying overnight at the mountain. Maybe we'll continue this for our next project. Although I didn't really enjoy the night spent at this mountain, I think it would be much better if the weather is dry.

See you in our next project before the Kinabalu project in March 2011.
